I am from Detroit, now in Kansas City. I am ordering today from this store. I am at an age that I remember the Vernors plant on Woordard. The taste is unmatched. My mother is still living (age 94) and still loves a Boston Cooler!! Oh, the memories. Used for everything....brom BBQ sauce to a stomach ache remedy.
My Neighbor and I were discussing what we grew up on...and she mentioned Ginger ale. My Mind lit up with memories of days in summer with Vernors Ginger ale!! I had to see if i could get some and found your site. Started out with a large enough order to WET our appetite! Thank you for being there!!!
I'm from the Detroit area and moved to KCMO. Yes, since it was bought out, Vernors isn't the same, and certainly not that "aged in barrels" flavor it used to have, but it's still better than anything that tries to be like it, and the bubbles still make you sneeze! So lucky they have it at Price Chopper in KCMO, otherwise, I'd lose my mind! Don't forget about making a Boston Cooler (Vernors and vanilla ice cream) - absolutely the yummiest. The Vernors store on Woodward next to the plant had every possible milk product and Vernors mix, plus others, that you could think of and they were all spectacular! The only other item I'm dying for and can't be found it my area is Faygo Rock n Rye (or anything Faygo). Shipping is really expensive from the Vernors Store, so can't buy it from them <<sign>>.
My dad worked for years at Squirt Bottling Co in East Liberty, Pittsburgh, Pa. They also bottled Vernors. This was @ 1960. Brought it home by the case. Boy, could that stuff spray when you shook it!! And, it tasted so good, made your eyes water!
I've grown up drinking ginger ale. For the longest time is was the only soda my grandmother would buy, and since I spent so much time at her home, I drank a lot of it. Been drinking it since I can remember, and no matter what it tastes amazing. Cold, Warm, fizzy, flat, it doesn't matter.
Growing up in the 60s in Rogers City, Michigan, we could count on our Grandma Karsten serving us Vernors Ginger Ale. It also kept me alive for a week, when at age 12 I developed a stomach ulcer, flat Vernors and a few vanilla wafers were the prescribed diet. Love me my Vernors!
My grandmother from Detroit would bring it down to Alabama when I was a kid. I love Vernors and now I'm glad to be able to buy it in Alabama. Miss the small glass bottles though! A great product and a great icon of Detroit!
My dad would go to Vernor's warehouse in Detroit /Hamtramck every Saturday afternoon. He'd make a game out of which of his five kids (at that time) he would take with him. Then he'd stop at the neighborhood bar and have a beer and we'd get a coke and shall bag of chips. I was so happy when I discovered I could buy online.
When I was a child, I suffered several times a year from tonsillitis to strep throat! My mother would buy a six pack of Vernors. It was a ritual! My mother only bought Vernors when someone in the family was sick. I would love the flavor, body and I would imagine it some where aging in kegs for I think it was 50 or 80 yrs! Now, I found it again here in Florida! It does't have the heavier richer taste as it once had. Only a faint hint of Vernors Ginger Ale! Probably because it isn't aged in those wooden kegs! lol! When I ache for the good old days, I'll buy it, just to stroll down memory lane! I also loved Birch Beer, can't get it down here! Also the REAL pickled sausages in the gallon jars and Blind Robins! (smoked dried fish) I am 62 now, grew up in the 50's and 60's in the Tonawanda's NY!
The U.S. Army colonel in charge of a post in Germany had Vernors Ginger Ale shipped into the commissary because he missed it and Michigan so much! I was never so glad!
My Dad worked next door to the Vernors plant in Detroitin the 1950's. He would come home with cases of 'seconds' (?) but they tasted fine to us...
i love Vernors, have been drinking it since a child. i remember it having more kick as a kid. now it just does not have that old kick. i still love it. it helped when i was pregnant.
I'm aging myself, but I can remember going to the Vernors building at the foot of Jefferson Avenue. You boarded the Bob-Lo boat at the end of Jefferson. I can the pristine white tiles and we would stop and get ginger ale from the barrels and the floats were out of this world. I'm in Chicago area and K-Marts carried Vernors but they closed the store. If I request it Jewel will get it. I'm going to have to request more. Best Ginger Ale ever!!!!!!
Went to James Vernor elementary in the 50's Vernors is tops with me... Stay thirsty my friends.
I have six pack of 16 oz Vernors 1968 bottles with carton. Anyone know their value?
Going to find some Vernors right now in honor of my Pontiac born Dad and Flint born Mom.
One year the santa suit went missing. Grandma went all over, couldn't find one. In a store window was the Vernors gnome in a green, white and yellow suit. After a bit of sweet talk, she bought the suit and we had a green santa that year.
I remember as a child my first taste of Vernor's Ginger Ale. It made me sneeze and after my first sip, I was totally addicted. My parents would drive down to Detroit Michigan to buy several caes. They didn't sell Vernor's in Ontario. I have found a small grocery store in Alliston Ontario that still sells Vernor's and make monthly forages. It still makes me sneeze.
I collect old pop bottles and have an old vernors 1pt8oz bottle that is still un-opened. My question is, how do I tell how old it is. Is it something with the numbers stamped on the bottom of the bottle. Thanks for all of your help!
I'm curious if anybody has any info on a couple of old Vernors bottles. History, approximate value, etc. First one says "Bottled in Canada." I thought it was always from Detroit. Let me know if more info is needed to help ID it. Second one has 7 71 stamped on the bottom. I'm guessing that's the date? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
